Cladtech are members of the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) and have no affiliations with trade organisations, specialist contractors, or suppliers to the industry, which allows the provision of truly independent advice. Shaun Kelly – Director and Consultant

Qualifications: MSc in Façade Engineering from Bath University (2005).  

1988-1990, Hermcrest Southern Ltd – curtain wall installer. 

1990 – 2001, Structura UK as a site installer in 1990 and thereafter became a contracts manager. Structura specialise in remedial cladding projects and during the 11 years with this company was involved in around 300 remedial projects, becoming fully conversant with a variety of curtain walling, roof glazing and rain screen cladding systems. 

2001-2002, Alan Nash Associates as a curtain wall consultant and worked on various new build schemes.

2002- to date, joined Cladtech Associates as an associate in June 2003. Shaun has been involved in a large number of prestigious projects within the UK and Europe and participating in all aspects of Cladtech’s professional activities including design analysis, testing, specification preparation, site inspections of existing and new build cladding systems and the forensic analysis of failing window, cladding and curtain walling systems. He completed his MSc in 2005 and in 2011 he became a Partner and in 2017 became a director of Cladtech Associates Ltd.  He currently sits on the CWCT technical standards committee.  Recent large projects include Heron Tower, Leadenhall Street, Royal London Hospital and 52 Lime street. 

Lawrence Gray  – Director and Consultant

Qualifications: 1998 – 2002  Nottingham Trent University; BSc(Hons) Architectural Technology

2009 – 2011  University of Bath; MSc Facade Engineering

Lawrence has a diverse practical experience including the design and testing of building envelope systems and their component parts, management of facade supply chain and site operations. Currently specialising in the evaluation of new designs, failure investigations, dispute resolutions, performance testing, production and on-site audits, quality control assessments, condition assessment, specification writing, and the preparation of remedial specifications for all types of cladding systems.

2000-2003 Contano Aluminium Limited as assistant Project Manager / Project Coordinator.

2003-2004 Sir Robert McAlpine – Cladding Manager. Following the demise of Contano Aluminium Ltd worked for Sir Robert McAlpine managing all aspects of the work to completion of the envelope package of a large commercial development.

2004-2006 GIG Fassadenbau – Project Manager UK / Construction Manager: Management of facade packages ranging in value from £2m to £4.5m from tendering, design, procurement, management, installation and delivery.

2006-2009 Spiral UK Limited – Project Manager: Management of facade packages ranging in value from £2m to £10m from tendering, design, procurement, management, installation and delivery.

2009 to 2013 Sandberg LLP – Associate / Facades Consultant:  As an Associate / Facades Consultant his main duties were to provide expert facade engineering and consultancy services to various clients concerned with the performance and/or quality of building envelopes and cladding/glazing materials.

2013 to date, Cladtech Associates – Associate Facade Consultant joined Cladtech Associates as an associate in October 2013 and then became a director of Cladtech Associates Ltd. in 2019

Tony Selkirk – Consultant

Qualifications: City & Guilds 200 and 260 Fabrication

1983-1991 Elemeta Ltd.  A bespoke curtain wall contractor and served an apprenticeship in curtain walling and became a curtain wall designer working directly for the Technical Director.

1992-1995 Taywood Engineering Ltd as a senior technician where he was involved in the on and off site testing to windows, curtain walling and other forms of lightweight cladding.

1996-1996 CIR, Italy and worked in the design/technical office as part of the design team assisting and supporting the Project Design Manager on projects for the market in the UK.

1996-2001 Focchi Spa, Italy and worked in the design department giving assistance and support to the Design Team on projects for the UK market.

2001-2007 Permasteelisa, Italy he worked in the design/technical department on a wide number of projects in various countries but primarily in the UK market.

2008 to date Cladtech Associates and has been involved in design reviews, specification preparation, site inspections and testing.

David Scott – Consultant

Qualifications: 2006 MEng Civil Engineering (with sandwich year) – Loughborough

2017 MSc BIM and Integrated Design – Salford

2003 – 2004 During the sandwich year of his master’s course, worked at Tony Gee and Partners.

2006 – 2011 after graduating he worked for Solaglas Contracting in various departments with roles including as a commercial estimating, a fabrication engineer, an assistant project manager and a design co-ordinator.

2011 – 2013 worked as Project and Design Manager at Deane & Amos Aluminium Systems Ltd.

2013 – 2018 joined Glass Solutions St Gobain, worked initially as a design manager and latterly as a technical manager.

2019 – 2020 joined Kawneer UK as a proposals engineer.

September 2020 to date joined Cladtech Associates Ltd as a façade consultant and is involved in all their professional activities including Expert Witness work.

Rosemary Young – Consultant

Professional Aliation: MCIOB – Member of the Chartered Institute of Building since 2012.

2004 – 2012 Lindner Facades Ltd (previously Lindner Schmidlin Facades Ltd), initially installing facades and then as a Site Manager reviewing contract documents and specifications. Responsible for correspondence relating to design, program, procurement and installation, including RAMS and O&M manuals.  Then spent 4 months at Cantifix as a Project Manager in bespoke, high-end glazing products and structural glass applications with input into site, design, and technical feasibility.

From Jan 2013 to Nov 2014 worked for Schneider Facades (UK) Ltd as a senior site manager, with responsibilities for management of all site operations on the façade package. Responsible for site SHEQ documentation. Liaising with design, production and project management departments in Germany.  Thereafter took a 5 year break from work due to travel and childcare.

In September 2020 worked for ISL Installation Solutions Ltd as a contract manager with responsibilities for co-ordination with the architect and contractor, procurement of materials, writing RAMS and O&M manuals, on-site quality testing and recording.

In May 2021 joined Cladtech Associates Ltd. to do PPM surveys, specification reviews, drawing reviews, failure investigations, report writing with responsibility for company Health & Safety administration.

Peter Plough – Senior Consultant

Qualifications: BA (Hons) Financial Economics

In 1969, he joined his father, N.T. Plough, to work with Winmart Associates, the first curtain walling and window consultancy practice in the United Kingdom.  To gain experience of the industry, he worked with several leading UK and Continental window and curtain walling companies, generally in their Design and Development departments and on site as an installation manager.

1977-1980, Winmart Associates, specialising in failure investigations, preparation of performance specifications and on site quality control procedures.

1981-1985, Elemeta Ltd. as the General Manager, being actively involved in custom made curtain wall design fabrication and installation in both UK and Middle East markets.

In 1985-to date, he started Cladtech Associates with Steve Green as the other Partner.  His work covers all aspects of Cladtech professional services including surveys, investigations of cladding, curtain wall and window failures.   Expert witness services, he is experienced in providing “Expert” reports and giving evidence in Court and attending mediations.  He became a director of Cladtech Associates Ltd in 2017 and resigned his director’s role in 2022 for succession planning reasons.

Simon Armstrong  – Senior Consultant

Qualifications:  BSc (Hons) Production Engineering

Simon Armstrong is an engineering graduate with a BSc (Hons) degree obtained from Lanchester Polytechnic in 1983 having completed a 4 year sandwich course in Production Engineering.  Whilst on that course, he worked for Mellowes Metfab (window and curtain wall manufacturers), as a Production Engineer and thereafter for Greyrook Engineering (specialist steel fabricators). 

1983-1986, Elemeta Ltd. where he worked as an assistant to the Technical Director until 1986.  During this time he worked on the design, development and testing of bespoke curtain wall, window and cladding systems. 

1986-1988, he joined Chamebel (a Belgian contractor) to obtain further on site practical experience and as a site agent was responsible for the installation of curtain wall and cladding systems on a number of large buildings. 

1988-to date, joined Cladtech Associates as an associate and has been involved with the full range of their activities, including surveys, failure investigations, litigation and the preparation of detailed design solutions and specifications. In 2000 he became a Partner in Cladtech Associates.  He is a committee member of the CWCT  and assisted in the preparation of the Standard for systemised building envelopes and assisted the NHBC with the development of their Standard Section 6.9 Curtain wall and cladding. He became a director of Cladtech Associates Ltd in 2017 and resigned his director’s role in 2022 for succession planning reasons.

Peter Hirst – Consultant

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Chemical Engineering

Peter Hirst is a graduate engineer with a BSc (Hons) degree in Chemical Engineering gained in 1983 following a 4 year sandwich course.

1983 – 1988  Elemeta, a leading curtain wall contractor, as a graduate management trainee and then worked in the Contracts Department as a Contracts Manager and latterly as Assistant to the Group Managing Director.

1988 -1998 LHT Anodisers Ltd as Commercial Manager, latterly becoming General Manager and gained specialist knowledge in architectural finishes. During this period he lectured at Bath (CWCT) & Leeds University on Anodising and Powder Coating.

In 1998 Plastic Coatings as Divisional Manager and further increased his knowledge on surface finishes.

In 1999 joined Schmidlin UK Ltd as a Project Manager and was involved in all aspects of multi-million pound bespoke Curtain Walling projects from pre-tender stage through to site project completion. During this period he took project management responsibility for the £60M Heathrow T5 curtain wall package.

In 2005 he was appointed General Manager of Poligrat UK Ltd, a division of a large German multinational, who specialise in the surface treatment of architectural stainless steel.

In 2009 he joined Cladtech Associates as an associate.  Since joining Cladtech he has worked on large commercial and residential projects including writing specifications, site inspections, dilapidation inspections, failure investigations and the assessment of architectural finishes.
